Psalm 119:37
King James Version
37 Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity;
and quicken thou me in thy way.
Are you thinking of having a tattoo?
Or do you already have one?
Why do you want one?
What design did you have in mind?
If you're born again, you may want to rethink the idea.
If you're not born again, it's still a good idea to read this post.
Mainly for these reasons:
Leviticus 19:28
King James Version
28 Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh
for the dead,
nor print any marks upon you:
I am the Lord.
Matthew 16:24
King James Version
24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples,
If any man will come after me,
let him deny himself,
and take up his cross,
and follow me.
1 Corinthians 6:13
King James Version
13 Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats:
but God shall destroy both it and them.
Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord;
and the Lord for the body.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
King James Version
19 What? know ye not
that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost
which is in you,
which ye have of God,
and ye are not your own?
20 For ye are bought with a price:
therefore glorify God in your body,
and in your spirit,
which are God's.
Romans 12:1
King James Version
12 I beseech you therefore, brethren,
by the mercies of God,
that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice,
holy,
acceptable unto God,
which is your reasonable service.
Galatians 5:24
King James Version
24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh
with the affections and lusts.
Whenever I reflect upon man's ways, I look to the LORD's ways.
How JESUS lived His life.
How He conducted Himself.
Never did He once call attention to Himself.
He only looked to the Father.
John 17:4
King James Version
4 I have glorified thee on the earth:
I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.
When He sent His apostles to preach, He told them:
Luke 9:3
King James Version
3 And he said unto them,
Take nothing for your journey,
neither staves, nor scrip, neither bread, neither money;
neither have two coats apiece.
So, I can only think to myself:
Did JESUS have a tattoo?
Did His apostles have one?
Did they think of self?
Were they obsessed with self?
Or did they focus on JESUS alone?
Being born again means you focus on JESUS alone.
Never on the ways of the world.
Consider these:
Luke 16:15
King James Version
15 And he said unto them,
Ye are they which justify yourselves before men;
but God knoweth your hearts:
for that which is highly esteemed among men
is abomination in the sight of God.
Romans 12:2
King James Version
2 And be not conformed to this world:
but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind,
that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable,
and perfect, will of God.
Colossians 3:1-2
King James Version
3 If ye then be risen with Christ,
seek those things which are above,
where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
2 Set your affection on things above,
not on things on the earth.
Knowing the body is the "temple of the Holy Spirit", I grieve at the thought of the Holocaust victims.
How their bodies were tattooed, desecrated, and destroyed.
If you're a believer, take heed.
If you're not a believer, all the more you need to look to JESUS.
Who lived in all simplicity, and devotion to GOD.
He had no use for things of the world.
